How it works

Press, speak, done.

  1. Press Ctrl + Space

In any app where you can type: an email, a document, a chat. You can change the shortcut.

  2. Speak naturally

A small pill at the top of the screen shows it’s listening. Press the shortcut again when you’re done — or turn on push-to-talk and hold it while you speak.

  3. Your words appear

Spectrum Dicta transcribes what you said and puts the text where your cursor is.

Local or remote

Two engines. You choose.

Run open models on your own computer, or plug in your own API key for a cloud engine. Switch whenever you like — the app shows which one is in use.

On your computer

Local

  • Private: your audio never leaves your computer
  • Works without internet
  • No per-minute cost
  • Made for everyday dictation

Open models such as Whisper and Parakeet, downloaded once.

With your own API key

Remote

  • More providers to choose from
  • High-accuracy cloud models
  • Your account and your bill, paid straight to the provider
  • Made for demanding work

OpenAI, Groq, Deepgram, ElevenLabs, Mistral AI and more.

Privacy

Your voice stays yours.

It doesn’t leave your computer unless you tell it to.

Besides the provider you choose, the app only goes online to activate your licence, check for updates and download models.

  • Local stays local

With a local model, your audio and your text never leave your computer. There's no account and no analytics.

  • Straight to your provider

With a remote engine, the audio goes directly to the provider you chose. It never passes through us.

  • Your key, locked away

Your API key is kept in Windows Credential Manager. It's only ever sent to the provider it belongs to. We never see it.

  • Your history, your rules

History stays on your computer. Delete any entry, and choose how long recordings are kept.

Questions

Before you buy.

Is it a subscription?

No. You pay once: 69 USD, or 49 USD at launch for the first 100 customers. It includes one year of updates, and your version keeps working after that.

Do I pay per minute?

Not with local models: they run on your computer at no cost. With a remote engine, you pay the provider directly for what you use.

Do I need an API key?

No. Local models don’t need one. A key is only for remote engines, and you get it from the provider you choose.

Does it work without internet?

Yes, with a local model. You only need a connection to download the model and to activate your licence, once on each computer.

Which providers can I use?

OpenAI, Groq, Mistral AI, Deepgram, SpaceXAI (Grok) and ElevenLabs, or a custom endpoint of your own. If you’re not sure, start with a local model: it’s free and private.

Where is my API key stored?

In Windows Credential Manager, on your computer. It’s only ever sent to the provider it belongs to, never to us.

Are my recordings uploaded anywhere?

Not with a local model. With a remote engine, the audio goes only to your provider. Your history stays on your computer, and you choose how long recordings are kept.

On how many computers can I use it?

Up to three.

What happens after the first year?

Spectrum Dicta keeps working, with every feature. You just stop receiving new versions.

Which local model should I use?

The app marks its recommendations. For English it suggests Parakeet. For other languages, Canary 1B v2 covers 25 languages and Whisper Large v3 Turbo about 100.

Why does Windows show a warning when I install?

Windows asks you to confirm before it runs some installers downloaded from the internet, and ours is one of them. Choose More info, then Run anyway. Download Spectrum Dicta only from spectrumdicta.com.

Can I get a refund?

Yes, within 30 days. The refund policy explains how.

Is there support?

Yes. The troubleshooting guide covers the most common problems, and you can always email us.
